• Piano Tuning

Tuning a piano is not merely a maintenance task; it is a crucial aspect of preserving the essence and functionality of this magnificent instrument. Here’s why it is important to have your piano tuned:

  • Sound Quality

Pianos are finely-tuned instruments, with an intricate system of strings and keys. When a piano is out of tune, the harmonious balance is disrupted, resulting in a less pleasing and often dissonant sound. Regular tuning ensures your piano produces the rich, resonant tones it was designed for.

  • Musical Enjoyment

Playing or listening to a well-tuned piano is a joy. It enhances the quality of your musical experience, making your compositions or favorite pieces sound their best. It’s not just about hearing music; it’s about feeling it deeply.

  • Skill Development

For those learning to play the piano, an in-tune instrument is essential. It helps train the ear and develop a sense of pitch, allowing for better musical progress and performance.

  • Longevity

Regular tuning can extend the life of your piano. When strings are under proper tension, the risk of damage and wear is reduced. Neglecting tuning can lead to more significant issues that may be costly to repair.

  • Stability

Pianos are sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. They naturally go out of tune over time. Routine tuning ensures your piano remains stable, even in varying environmental conditions.

  • Investment Protection

Pianos are valuable instruments. Proper maintenance, including tuning, safeguards your investment, ensuring it retains its value for potential resale or future generations.

  • Emotional Connection

Pianos often hold sentimental value within families. Keeping a family heirloom in tune preserves the emotional connection and memories associated with it.

  • Artistry

For professional pianists, a well-tuned piano is a necessity. It’s their canvas, and they need it to be in pristine condition to express their artistry fully.

  • In conclusion

Piano tuning is about preserving the beauty, quality, and soul of the instrument. It’s an investment in the musicality of your home, your skill as a pianist, and the longevity of a beloved companion in your musical journey. Regular tuning by a skilled technician ensures your piano remains in harmony with your life and your music.

  • For pianos that are close to concert pitch. (Typically pianos that have been tuned previously in the last year)

  • If your piano hasn’t been tuned in the last few years it’s quite possible that the piano has dropped in pitch. When this happens the piano will need to be tuned twice. The first time to stretch the strings up to concert pitch. The piano will then settle and will need to be tuned a second time. In some cases the piano would benefit from a third tuning at a later date. Some older pianos might not be able to achieve a pitch raise so it is advised to book an assessment visit.
